Illinois Receiver Arthur van der Vant is a member of the Turnaround Management Association (TMA), an organization that measures the experience, knowledge, and integrity required to be a successful corporate renewal worker. As Arthur van der Vant points out, there currently is no regulation of the corporate renewal industry, so TMA serves to establish standards for quality in the field.
Arthur van der Vant has completed the education portion of the CTP certification provided by TMA. Classes centered on finance, management, and law in the field of corporate renewal. The law class was conducted by Judge Robert D. Martin who serves as Chief U.S. Bankruptcy Judge for the Western District of Wisconsin (Madison) since 1978. This training is a step toward CTP certification by TMA. The TMA requires members to sign a Code of Ethics annually, says Arthur van der Vant, certifying that they are committed to providing service that meets TMA’s high standards of integrity, professionalism, and competence. The organization also provides conferences, webinars, and publications geared toward educating and informing members on any changes in the industry.
Arthur van der Vant recently attended TMA’s 24th annual conference in Boston. Attendees at this year’s conference include former Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean and former Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele, who participated in a debate just days before the presidential election.
Other events at the annual TMA conference included sessions on finance and accounting, law, and change management. According to Arthur van der Vant, the conference provided a unique opportunity to meet others in the industry, with various networking events encouraging the sharing of ideas and issues. Numerous businesses were in attendance at the conference, including Deloitte Financial Advisory Services, Wells Fargo, and JP Morgan Chase.
